Raleigh Orthopedic Clinic

What Sets Raleigh Orthopedic Clinic Apart

Raleigh Orthopedic Clinic is Wake County’s oldest orthopedic practice. Our roots in providing orthopedic medicine to central and eastern North Carolina can be traced back to 1919, when our original founders, Dr. Hugh Thompson, Dr. Walter Hunt, and Dr. Thomas Dameron opened Wake County’s first general surgery practice with a focus in Orthopedic, and in 1959, these three surgeons named the practice Raleigh Orthopedic Clinic (ROC).

Today, Raleigh Orthopedic Clinic has 19 board-certified orthopedic surgeons, with advanced training in their respective subspecialties, which include: foot and ankle surgery, hand, wrist and elbow surgery, neck and spine surgery, hip surgery, shoulder surgery, total joint replacement, and pediatric orthopedic care. In addition, Raleigh Orthopedic Clinic has two psychiatrists and a podiatrist, who specialize in the conservative treatment options for orthopedic conditions, and 12 physician assistants and nurse practitioners to care for your unique orthopedic conditions. We have five convenient clinic locations in Raleigh, Garner and North Raleigh with on-site services, including MRI, X-ray, physical therapy, casts, braces, splints, and orthotics and pedorthotics.

You may be asking yourself, when would I even need to see an orthopedic doctor? Well, we all know there are particular doctors and specialties that are better suited to care for a particular issue. You wouldn’t go to a dentist to have your toenail removed just like you wouldn’t visit the podiatrist to have a molar extracted. There are a few big signs and symptoms you need to look out for with orthopedic injuries.
-          Instability when using
-          Range of motion decreasing
-          Numbness/tingling and weakness spreading
-          Chronic pain lasting longer than a few weeks
-          Pain, discomfort, or stiffness makes your everyday activities harder than they should be.

Orthopedic doctors can make everyday tasks easier to perform
Too many people attempt to just “tough it out” and deal with painful lingering issues plaguing them day in and day out. You should not just accept it and live your life with stiffness, pain, and a limited range of motion. Not only is this all incredibly annoying when you can’t do things like you used to but it can really hinder your ability to be self-sufficient. If simple tasks like going for a walk or bending over are causing you pain – it may be time to consider seeing an orthopedic doctor to help you come up with a treatment plan to better your quality of life.
Many athletes will work closely with a board-certified orthopedic surgeon to prevent as many future injuries as possible while optimizing current performance and treating any underlying issues or ailments. One great example is dislocation. Whether it be from prior injuries or a genetic disposition, once you have had one dislocation happen you stand a good chance of seeing more in the future. An orthopedic doctor can work with you to prevent future dislocations through non-invasive methods like physical therapy. It never hurts to get the input of a true expert. The best orthopedic doctors likely see injuries similar to what is ailing you every day, they can come up with a custom treatment plan for you should you need it. You only get one body so you’re better off being safe rather than sorry.
