Hello. Orthopedics and Nutrition, that’s the topic I’d like to address right now.

My name is Doctor Dan Albright. I’m an orthopedic surgeon at
the Raleigh Orthopedic Clinic in Raleigh, North Carolina. I have a particular interest in nutrition and good health for my
patients and also weight control.

We know obesity is an epidemic in our country and a lot of people are overweight.

I might be out of business if everyone lost weight because with less weight we see a lot less orthopedic problems; less arthritis, less back pain, surgery. So I do have a general interest in helping patients lose weight and eat properly.

In the last year I’ve read two books that are particularly good with really, really good science. I’m not making royalties off these books, but the information is so powerful I just wanted to share it with you.

This book is “Wheat Belly” by Dr. William Davis. He’s a cardiologist and he has a lot of good material in here about wheat and why we should stop eating pasta and grains. And just briefly the other book that connects with this is “Grain Brain” it’s by Doctor David Perlmutter. He’s a neurologist.

So two physicians for both these books and you can buy them on Amazon or anywhere, but if you read these it’ll change your life.

The point is wheat is actually addictive. Wheat, bread, pasta, wheat’s in everything and wheat goes to your brain there’s actually an addictive link in your brain where the opium and morphine receptors are and you get hooked on wheat. We you want more.
It’s an addiction, it actually is.

Wheat also spikes your blood sugar quicker than a Snickers bar. So if you eat wheat, whole grain wheat, your sugar goes way up quickly in your blood stream, then your sugar goes down an hour or two later and you get a hunger pang then you want more sugar, more wheat.

Now the third part about wheat is gluten which is a protein and there are several other proteins in wheat that are bad for you, it’s just bad for you. A gluten-free diet is much, much healthier.

One in three Americans, approximately, tested sensitive to gluten and they don’t know it. Now I didn’t say allergic to gluten, they are just sensitive, including me. I know when I go gluten-free I feel much better, I do surgery better, I focus better, my digestion and sleep are better, my energy is better. So I’ve had patients
lose 60 pounds, literally, sixty pounds in three months just by not eating bread, not eating pasta, getting rid of the wheat, the processed foods. Wheat’s in everything. So if you do that simple thing break your addiction to wheat.

Whole grains are not healthy, whole grains are unhealthy, and the science is there to prove it. There’s plenty of science in these books. You’ll have a new life and you’ll have a lot less orthopedic problems if you do this.

So I just have a general interest in helping my patients and helping them feel better. It’s me and my family when I’m talking to you. I really recommend “Wheat Belly” and “Grain Brain”. I’m not a book salesman just passing information on that I think is very powerful from a science perspective.
